  1. I Should Be Souvlaki

If you ever have a hankering for meat, watch out for I Should Be Souvlaki. Selling at $16 for a chicken, lamb, or mixed souvlaki, its wraps became an instant hit as they entered the plant-based food scene. Marinated in an aromatic blend of herbs and spices for 60 hours, it creates a profound flavor in this juicy and tender meat, separating I should be souvlaki to its competitors. The wrap also incorporates lettuce, tomato, and sauce for added freshness, texture and to balance off the flavors. It is well balanced in terms of portion and taste, meaning no clumsy eating when everything falls apart as you bite through. The final verdict? The ‘meat’ tastes just like the real deal, and I am hooked.

2. La Petit Fauxmagerie

In La Petit Fauxmagerie, ‘faux’ as in ‘fake’ in English, it sells one and only one thing — the infamous cheese toasty. Priced at $15 may seem unjust, yet the unbeatable melty and oozy sandwich just keeps you coming back. As thin slices of bread are grilled until golden brown, the silky nutty melted cheese is then poured on top and then enclosed with another slice of bread, creating the irresistible combination of crunchiness and smoothness. The final dish is then topped with some chilli for a kick-in flavour and accompanied with salted chips for extra crispiness. As simple as it may seem, it has successfully grasped the hearts of every diner with its unique cheesy flavour profile alternative to our good old cheese toasty. To get your hands on these savoury treats is however no easy task, the queue starts as soon as the stall opens, and everything is sold out around 2 pm. So, a tip? Get there as soon as possible, preferably around noon. Trust me, they are worth it.

3. THE C WORD

The c word? Not cupcake, not cake but cookies. With its decadent, gooey, and devious-looking cookies, THE C WORD is an absolute crowd-pleaser in the market. Be it the adults or tiny tots, everyone is obsessed. As the afternoon approaches, people begin flocking here, yearning to get hold of one of this scrumptious goodness. Freshly baked, these luscious cookies have a crunchy exterior yet soft interior, break them apart and the melted chocolate chips just keep oozing out. Featuring over 10 flavours from the classic choc chip to hazelnut mocha, it sure delights every sweet tooths. Truth be told, THE C WORD is one indulgent that your waistline is to be put aside.

Sydney Vegan Market has so much more to offer in addition to foods, free yoga sessions, intellectual talks, live music concerts, the list is endless. Yet, everything aside, it is important, if not crucial to think about the WHY. Why does the Sydney vegan market exist in the first place? With climate change being in the limelight, it urges the need for an alternative consumption habit, and this ties in with the market’s mission: to raise awareness of conscious and ethical consumption. Whether it is for health, the environment, or our future, why not include Sydney Vegan Market in your next no-meat day and immerse yourself in such a lively atmosphere?
